Miko the Monkey and the Funny Stick

Once upon a time, there was a kind gardener who was building a pretty little house for birds in his garden. He had many friendly helpers, who used big tools like saws and hammers.

Every morning, the helpers would work. Saw, saw, saw! they would go. Then, when it was time for yummy lunch, they would stop their work and go eat. They always came back to finish building.

One sunny day, a group of playful monkeys arrived! They loved to watch the helpers from the trees. When the helpers went for lunch, the monkeys came down to look closely at everything.

One of the helpers was cutting a long piece of wood. It was only half-done. So, he put a special little wooden block in the middle to keep the wood from closing up. Then he went for his lunch.

When all the helpers were gone, the monkeys started jumping around. They looked at all the tools, but they knew not to touch them.

But there was one little monkey, named Miko, who was super curious! He saw the little wooden block sticking out of the big piece of wood. He sat down on the wood and thought, "Hmm, what is this funny stick doing here?"

Miko grabbed the little wooden block and pulled, pull, pull!

Pop! All of a sudden, the little wooden block came out! The big piece of wood went CLUNK! and closed right up!

Miko was very surprised! He didn't get hurt at all, but his tail got a little tickle when the wood closed, and he quickly pulled it out. He looked at the closed wood and then at the little wooden block in his hand. "Oh!" he thought. "That wasn't a toy!"

When the helpers came back, they saw the wood was closed, and they just chuckled. They put the wooden block back in its place to finish their work. Miko watched from a safe distance, feeling a little silly but also a lot smarter.

Moral of the Story:

It's super important to be curious, but only touch things that belong to you or when a grown-up says it's okay! Tools and big things are not for playing.
